The grasslands are found in the southern part of prairie provinces in Canada and have a moderate biomass. As well, the grassland has larger biodiversity* that the tundra does. The grassland biome has been changed drastically by humans to support their livestock and wheat stock.

In temperate grasslands the temperatures vary throughout the year, with hot summers of 30 degrees Celsius to cold winters of -10 degrees Celsius. Although the grasslands experience yearly drought periods, the annual precipitation is 25cm to 75cm. Due to drought, the grasslands experience periodic prairie fires.
Plants and Soil

The grasslands are ideal for different agricultural activities due to the thick and fertile soil. The top soil, which is rich and deep, supports large-scale root growth. As a result of limited rainfall, trees in the temperate grasslands are very limited.
Animals

Some of the mammals in the temperate grasslands include bison, antelopes, coyotes, wolves, and wild horses. There are also smaller animals such as rabbits, snakes, and mice.
*biodiversity - variety among and within plant and animal species in an environment
